The employees of Haws® are busy with activities that are to benefit out fourth quarter charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude is dedicated “to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.” No child is turned away from St. Jude for treatment and the family of the child is not expected to pay for anything. Being the only children’s hospital designated as a “Comprehensive Cancer Center” by the National Cancer Institute, children from all over the United States and world have received treatment. St. Jude has advanced new protocols to boost the survival rate of childhood cancer from less than 20% when the hospital opened in 1964 to 80% today.
We started off our fundraiser by hosting a “HAWnted Halloween Festival “. Before the festivities began, employees were able to get a “Chilling Make-up Set” by making a donation to St. Jude. The afternoon was filled with amusing carnival games including: Creepy Corn Hole, Provoking Pumpkin Pong, and the Ghoulish Cake Walk. We all had fun with the carnival and were thrilled that we were able to raise money for families at St. Judes.
Haws employees were able to show off their cooking skills by preparing chili for the chili cook off. A representative was asked from each department to serve up the tastiest chili to be judged by a panel of employees. We all had too much fun consuming the incredible selections and participating in the raffle activities. David Wright’s “Hot n’ Sweet Chili” was chosen as the first place winner by the panel of judges.
In addition, we have some fun contests occurring in the office that employees are actively involved in. Currently all departments are battling each other in the “Penny Wars”. The goal is for the winning team to have collected the most pennies. Teams can be sabotaged by having silver coins and dollars added to the opposing team’s jar. Prizes are awarded for the team that raises the most money and the team that collects the most pennies. Next up is the “Gingerbread House Competition” where teams will show off their decorative talents by sprucing up the classic gingerbread house. It’s bound to be an entertaining and delectable event!

HAWnted Fall Festival at HawsYesterday, Haws employees indulged in the fun and entertaining events put on for the HAWnted Fall Festival. All proceeds benefited our quarterly charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Early in the morning, all departments put on the finishing touches to their department theme decorations and costumes.
Employees bought raffle tickets in order to partake in the various carnival games including the Provoking Pumpkin Pong, the Creepy Corn Hole and the Ghoulish Cake Walk! Winners of the games were awarded with prizes. Later in the afternoon, the judged scoped the departments and costumes and announced the winners of the best individual costume, best group costumes, and the best decorated department.
