Throwback Thursday: Announcing our Support of the Drink Up Campaign

On July 22, 2014 First Lady Michelle Obama joined the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA), of which Mrs. Obama is honorary chair, to announce that seven new supporters have joined the Drink Up effort, which encourages people across the country to drink more water, more often. As part of the announcement, about three dozen children from a local YMCA and a National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) summer camp helped build a 60-foot by 43-foot water droplet composed of 2,000 blue “Drink Up” water bottles on the South Lawn of the White House.

Haws Corporation® Strengthens Support for the Growing Drink Up Initiative with School Fundraising Program Successes

With organizations everywhere seeking out options to have good tasting water easily available to the public, Haws partnered with the Partnership for Healthier America’s Drink Up initiative earlier in the year to expand a program that will make Brita® filtered water bottle filling stations accessible and affordable to all schools.

As the inventor of the original Brita® Hydration Station®, a wall-mounted bottle filler providing schools and businesses with convenient access to Brita® filtered water, Haws has experienced an outpouring of interest from schools and businesses nationwide. Together with Drink Up and Nalgene®, Haws has increased awareness of their popular Fundraising Program which encourages students and groups to sell custom branded Nalgene® bottles to raise funds for their own Brita® Hydration Station®.

Since the July Drink Up announcement, numerous schools have taken advantage of the revised campaign to initiate their own Brita® Hydration Station® fundraising project, as well as raise awareness of existing bottle refill stations. Michael B. Dodge, Superintendent of Dundee Community Schools in Michigan says, “Many students and staff stop by to use the machine…(they) love it! I highly recommend the Fundraising Program.”

In addition, Haws has been actively collaborating with universities across the country to engage in their own hydration and sustainability initiatives. Georgia College, a public liberal arts university in Milledgeville, installed multiple Brita® Hydration Station’s® throughout their university housing locations. In conjunction with the College, Haws supported efforts to promote the newly installed stations and the importance of hydration, which included several table events with reusable Nalgene® bottles giveaways. “Students LOVE the bottles!” said Matthew Terry, Assistant Director at University Housing at Georgia College.

In addition, University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ (UNLV) Take Back the Tap group hosted the largest student organized sustainability festival at the end of October where they utilized Haws’ Brita® Hydration Station® mobile kiosk to promote awareness of the existing units installed throughout the campus.  For additional information on the Drink Up initiative, please visit: Your Are What You Drink.

Throwback Thursday: Washington DC with Michelle Obama

This past July, Haws was invited to the White House to kick-off becoming a major supporter of the Partnership for Healthier America’s Drink Up campaign. It was an honor to attend along with the additional  new supporters, in an effort to encourage the activity of drinking water.

As part of our support, Haws will provide Drink Up branded Brita® Hydration Stations® and drinking fountains to be distributed nationwide, providing added awareness to the campaign. Haws is also teaming up with Nalgene®in a fundraising program that helps schools and universities with the cost of Brita® Hydration Stations® . Proceeds from the program also benefit Drink Up.

During her speech, Michelle Obama recognized the efforts of the Drink Up supporters including Haws. Haws hopes that participation in the campaign will add continued success to Drink Up and help encourage healthy hydration habits nationwide.

Treat Yourself to Fruit Infused Water

Need a boost to your daily water intake?  Fruit can add a natural sweet flavor that can easily help you stay hydrated throughout the day. The best way to enjoy a fruit-infused water, is by letting fruit blend in your re-usable water bottle overnight.  Even after multiple refills from a hydration station throughout the day, your water will still taste sweet and refreshing.

Citrus fruits are packed with antioxidants and offer unique flavors that pair well with water. Add mint to your water to sustain fresh breath throughout the day! The fruit combinations for water are endless.  Fruit water is an excellent treat for your sweet tooth and extremely healthy to boot.
