What is a Standard?
A standard is a technical guideline regarding product design or performance. It carries no legal status to either require or enforce compliance. Federal as well as independent agencies, such as ANSI, publish such non-binding guidelines.
What is a Code?
A code is a law enacted by a legislative body at the federal, state or municipal level. (At the federal level it is called an "act.") Via legislation, a standard often becomes a code at the federal, state or local level.
What is a Certification?
The process of publicly attesting that a specified quality or standard has been achieved or exceeded.
